I guess I was hoping for a new cult classic and that skewed my perception of this film. That is not what this film is. Instead Kick-Ass is an outstanding spoof movie, top of its genre but nothing more.
The characters were great, jokes simple but laugh out loud and the references easy to interpret (Nicholas Cage’s impression of Adam West was hilarious). This said, the script was thin and the plot utterly predictable. As neither of these elements are necessary for contemporary spoofs, in the cold light of day, it's not an issue but I really liked the idea of the film and I think it had the potential to be so much more.
Did I feel enlightened? Like I had seen something new and innovative? No. Did I leave wanting to be Hit Girl? Definitely.
